For this first time in his four year career Anthony Gabriel was selected as the Freedom Conference Player of the Week by the conference office. Gabriel had excellent performances against both Misericordia and Manhattanville this past week, and is the third Colonel to receive the award this season.

Wilkes guard Chris DeRojas entered into an elite club on Saturday, Jan. 23, scoring his 1,000th point on a three-pointer in the second half against Delaware Valley. The junior from Dallas, Pa. hit the long jumper with 10:18 left in the game en route to a 16 point effort in a crucial Freedom Conference contest for the Colonels.

The Wilkes University men’s basketball team participated in a rollercoaster of a game on Saturday afternoon against Manhattanville, and after shooting 47 free throws and coming back from a 15 point deficit, defeated the Valiants in overtime, 81-78.

The Wilkes University women’s basketball team shot only 28.6 percent from the field and was out-rebounded 55-29 on Saturday, falling to Manhattanville 79-47. The Lady Colonels started the contest on the right track, but the interior play of the Valiants was too much for Wilkes, who fell to 1-9 in conference play with the loss.

The Wilkes wrestling team faced its highest-ranked opponent of the season in No. 4 Ithaca, and the Bombers left Wilkes-Barre with seven individual wins to take a 26-10 victory over the Colonels.

The Wilkes University wrestling team, currently ranked No. 15 nationally, will face one of its toughest opponents of the year when it hosts No. 4 Ithaca at 7 p.m. Friday in the Marts Center. It will be the eighth time this season the Colonels have gone up against a ranked opponent.

The Wilkes University men’s and women’s cross country teams are hosting the 2nd Colonels Run for Kids on Saturday, April 10th at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The benefits of the event will be given to the Wilkes cross country teams as well as Valley Santa.

DALLAS – The Wilkes University men’s basketball team trailed by as many as 14 with less than five minutes to play, but a late surge fell short as Misericordia pulled out a 77-71 win over the Colonels. The Cougars’ win snapped the Colonels three-game win streak.

The Wilkes University women’s basketball team traveled to Dallas, Pa. on Wednesday evening to face Misericordia University in Freedom Conference action. The Lady Colonels were looking to break a five game skid, but ran into a hot team in the Cougars, who won 67-46.

Women's Soccer | 2.3.10
The Wilkes University Women’s Soccer Team is anxiously anticipating its trip to Brazil in August, 2010. The trip, costing close to $2500 per player, has required a two-year extensive fundraising effort by the team and coaching staff. They have raised close to $14,000 for the trip and continue to work hard to land in São Paulo on August 2.
