Wilkes University will be making its seventh appearance in the ECAC Championship when the Colonels take on Franklin & Marshall at noon on Saturday in Lancaster. Wilkes is 3-3 in ECAC games and will be taking on the Diplomats for the first time in school history.

This past Thursday evening, several members of the Wilkes University cross country teams participated and volunteered at one of the letter reading sessions for Valley Santa. Valley Santa is an organization that provides gifts to needing children during the holidays.

The Wilkes University women’s basketball team experienced the sixth largest turnaround in the NCAA last season, winning nine more games in the 2008-09 season than in 2007-08. This year, expectations remain the same for a team that was 11-14 a year ago.

The Wilkes University football team had six players receive honors in a vote by coaches around the league, as Kevin Gerhart, Jordan D’Emilio, Chris Swinarski, Sean Madden, Nick Genuardi and Andrew Yacina were all either voted to All-Freedom Conference teams or Co-Rookie of the Year.

After a close first half, Wilkes University out-scored PSU-Hazleton 46-17 in the second to roll to an 84-53 win to open the 2009-2010 season. Four players scored in double figures with Paul Huch leading the way with a career-high 18 points.
