The Wilkes University wrestling team posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.261, ranking them 15th nationally, proving they are not only successful on the mat, but define the true meaning of student-athlete.

LAUDENSLAGER HONORED BY NWCA

Jon Laudenslager, head wrestling coach at Wilkes University, was honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association this past month. Laudenslager, who is entering into his eighth season as head coach at Wilkes, was selected as one of the 32 coaches across the nation to receive scholarships to participate in the Second Annual NWCA Coaching Leadership Academy in Delray Beach, Fla.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Wilkes University wrestling program has a historic past and senior Zach Pizarro will continue the trend of some of the best wrestlers in the country as he finished fifth overall at the NCAA Championships at 197.

NCAA WRESTLING UPDATE: PIZARRO ACHIEVES ALL-AMERICAN STATUS, HEFFERNAN COMES UP SHORT

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Senior Zach Pizarro has had a career this year and capped off his final collegiate season by achieving All-American Status after winning a pair of matches in the wrestlebacks at the NCAA Championships. His teammate Frank Heffernan, however, came up short in his quest to be an All-American for the second- straight year.

Frank Heffernan and Zach Pizarro will be representing Wilkes University at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships this weekend, both of which are no strangers to the event. Heffernan will be competing in the national tournament for the third-straight year, while Pizarro will be making his second trip to the NCAA’s.

After waiting 18 years to win a conference title, the Wilkes University wrestling team isn’t ready to let it go. They will enter the 2010 Metropolitan Conference Championship this Sunday hosted by TCNJ as one of the favorites to repeat once again this year but will have stiff competition along the way.

WILKES BEATS CROSSTOWN RIVAL KING’S; CAPTURE SCHOOL-RECORD FOR WINS IN A SEASON

The No. 17 Wilkes wrestling team continues to re-write the school record book, and it can add another as the Colonels picked up their 22nd win of the season with a 27-9 victory over No. 23 King’s College. The previous record was 21 set during the 1986-87 and the 1987-88 seasons.
