This Saturday the Wilkes University football team travels to Reading, Pa. to take on the undefeated Albright Lions in Freedom Conference action. This is the 33rd meeting between the two teams, with last year's game ending in a loss for the Colonels at Shirk Stadium in Reading.

In last year's match-up the Lions recorded 369 total yards en route to a 17-10 victory over the Colonels. Albright ran for 218 yards in that game, 212 coming from Josan Holmes. Wilkes was only able to tally 237 yards of total offense on that day, turning the ball over three times on interceptions.

This year Wilkes enters their fourth game of the season unbeaten for the first time since 2006, and is only nine votes away from cracking the top 25. The Colonels are coming off a 24-17 victory over Christopher Newport in their last non-conference game of the season.

Wilkes is currently out-scoring their opponents 75-39 in 2009, allowing only 13 points per game. Three of the Colonels 10 touchdowns have been scored on defense, two from senior defensive back Corey Gilroy (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore). Defensive back Kevin Gerhart (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) leads the team in tackles with 26, while Tim Lombreglia (Sparta, N.J./Pope John) heads the Colonel defense in sacks with 2.5 and tackles for loss with 4.5.

Offensively the Colonels are led by senior Quarterback Rob Johnson (Bridegwater, N.J./Bridgewater) who is averaging 225 yards per game through the air, and a passer rating of 123.7. His main target, Jordan D'Emilio (Stowe/Saint Pius X), has 20 catches for 249 yards so far this season. On the ground Wilkes has multiple runners that are seeing playing time, led by Zach Tivald (Edison, NJ/Edison) and Harry Reese (Plymouth, PA/Wyoming Valley West) who have combined for 185 yards on the ground in the first three games.

Only three teams remain unbeaten in Freedom Conference, those being Albright, Wilkes and Lebanon Valley.
