This Saturday the Wilkes University football team will be heading to Williamsport, Pa. to take on the Warriors of Lycoming College. Wilkes won its last contest 7-6 against FDU-Florham in a driving rain, the first MAC victory for the Colonels.
Saturday's contest will be the 49th meeting between the two teams, with the Warriors winning 33 of the previous match-ups. Lycoming brings in a 3-4 (2-2) record into the game, with its last game ending in defeat to a solid Delaware Valley team, 21-7.
Last season the Colonels defeated Lycoming in Edwardsville, 27-13. Quarterback
Rob Johnson (Bridegwater, N.J./Bridgewater) threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns in the contest, while running back
Harry Reese (Plymouth, PA/Wyoming Valley West) had 103 total yards from scrimmage. Defensively, Wilkes held the Warriors to only 34 total yards on the ground.
This season Lycoming has one of the best defenses in the MAC, holding opponents to 319 total yards per game. The Warriors have also picked off 12 opponent passes and have 10 sacks, 3.5 by Anthony Marascio. Offensively the Warriors are led by quarterback Colin Dwyer who is averaging 182.6 yards through the air. Running back Josh Kleinfelter leads the Lycoming rushing attack, averaging just under 78 yards per game while accumulating four touchdowns this year.
