The Wilkes University women's team will be looking for its fourth-straight Freedom Conference Team Title, while the men are after their third when they host the championships tomorrow on the Ralston Courts.
The women, who finished the regular season with a 6-0 conference and 14-4 overall record, will host Misericordia at 10 a.m. on the Ralston Courts in a re-match of last year's Freedom Conference Team Finals. A year ago, the Lady Colonels took a 5-0 win over the Cougars, en route to their third-straight appearance in the NCAA National Tournament.
Wilkes has the No. 1 seed while Misericordia is the No. 3 seed. The two teams met back on Nov. 8 in Dallas with the Lady Colonels taking a 9-0 win.
While the women are after an unprecedented fourth-straight title, the men's tennis team is on the same track and will meet a familiar foe on Saturday. The Colonels, who earned the No. 1 seed, will host second-seeded Manhattanville at 1 p.m.
The contest will be a re-match of last year's finals with the Colonels, who were the No. 2 seed upsetting top-seeded Manhattanville 5-4. A year ago, the Valiants took an 8-1 victory in Manhattanville, but the Colonels advanced to the NCAA Championships with their victory in the conference finals.
This season, Wilkes downed the Valiants 5-4, but actually clinched the match at 5-1 in Edwardsville. The Colonels will enter the contest with a 14-2 mark, while Manhattanville is 13-5 this season.
