Wilkes University head men's basketball coach Jerry Rickrode has announced that Matthew Mullins, a 6'2” 180 pound guard from Binghamton, New York has made his decision to continue his academic and athletic careers at Wilkes in the fall.

Matthew enjoyed an outstanding high school career at Chenango Valley. He was a two time Press and Sun Bulletin All Metro pick. As a junior he led the entire Southern Tier Athletic Conference in scoring at 21 points per game. He followed that up with a stellar do-it-all senior season as he averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game while eclipsing the 1,000 point mark and being named MVP of the highly regarded Stop DWI holiday tournament held at the Broome County Arena.

He culminated his high school career by being named to the state final-four all-star team. He led Chenango Valley to the class B section 4 Championship and New York State final four in Glenn Falls. An excellent all-around athlete, Matthew was also a three year letterman and two year all-conference quarterback during his high school years.

Following high school, Matthew earned the rare opportunity to play Division 1 basketball. He enrolled at Binghamton University and competed there one year for the America East Conference champions and NCAA qualifier Bearcats. Matthew then transferred to Broome County Community College where he averaged 17 points and 5 assists per game while being named all-conference and all-region.
