Steve Finkernagel Both Wilkes tennis teams enter the NCAA Tournament this week WILKES TENNIS TEAMS LEARN NCAA FATES 5/6/2013 7:54:00 PM Men's Bracket / Women's Bracket WILKES TENNIS TEAMS LEARN NCAA FATES WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's tennis teams learned their NCAA Tournament fates as the NCAA announced the men's and women's fields Monday afternoon. The seven-time defending Freedom women's tennis program will head to Amherst College in Massachusetts to take on Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) in first round action while the Colonel's men's squad will head to Gambier, Ohio and Kenyon College to face Grove City. First round action begins May 9 but Wilkes' first round matches will take place on Friday, May 10. The men face Grove City at 10:00 a.m. and the women matchup against Mt. St. Mary's (N.Y.) at 1:00 p.m. The men enter the tournament with a 15-3 overall mark after claiming their sixth Freedom title Saturday defeating King's College 5-0. The Colonels will be making their sixth straight trip to the NCAA tournament going a perfect 6-0 in Freedom play this year. Grove City enters the tournament with an 8-5 overall record capturing the Presidents' Athletic Conference crown for the 23rd time in late April. On the women's side, Wilkes closed its regular season with an 18-2 mark and earned the program's seventh Freedom title beating Misericordia University 5-0 on Saturday. Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) stands 12-0 on the year after claiming their fourth straight Skyline Conference championship with a 5-0 win over Farmingdale State on April 27.
