Wilkes Women's Tennis Completes Day One of MAC Individual Championships
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team completed day one of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championships on Saturday with every entry reaching the semifinals in their respective flight.
Sophomore
Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) advanced in No. 1 singles with a 6-0. 6-0 quarterfinals win over King's Emily Kabalka following her first round bye and will face Cassandra Noray of Alvernia for a chance to go to the finals.
Senior
Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep) reached the No. 2 singles semifinals with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Delaware Valley's Alexandra Vaccaro in the quarterfinals following her first round bye and will face Alvernia's Amanda Phillips tomorrow.
In No, 3 singles, freshman
Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) advanced following her first round bye with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kaitlin Hallabuk of Lycoming and will face Melanie Haas of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals.
Freshman
Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) defeated FDU-Florham's Christine Kenny 6-1, 6-0 following her first round bye to face Lebanon Valley's Alyssa Potosnak in the No. 4 singles semifinals.
Senior
Taylor Hoffmann (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland) advanced to the semifinals in No. 5 singles after defeating Amber Achenbach of DeSales 6-1, 6-3 following a first round bye and will face Elizabeth Drda of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals.
In No. 6 singles, sophomore
Grace Graham (Rockville Centre, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) defeated Mia Cappozolli 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals following her first round bye and will face Sarah Chan of DeSales for a chance to advance to championship.
Freshman
Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) defeated Amanda Adams of Messiah 6-1, 6-1 following a first round bye and will face Allison Weidman of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals for a chance to reach the No. 7 singles finals.
In No. 1 doubles, Vasarkovy and Croker advance to the semifinals by defeating Messiah 8-2 following a first round bye and will face Albright in the semifinals.
Saliyev and Varela-Seri advanced in No. 2 doubles following a first round bye after defeating Arcadia 8-0 and will face Lycoming in the semifinals.
Hoffmann and junior
Julia Baranov (Huntingdon Valley, PA/William Tennent) advanced following a first round bye in No. 3 doubles and defeated Arcadia 8-0 to face DeSales in the semifinals.
In No. 4 doubles, senior
Alanna Denauski (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) and junior
Brittany Stanton (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) advanced its v 8-3 victory over Messiah and will face DeSales in the semifinals.
Semifinal rounds begin tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the championships.
