Box Score

The Wilkes University field hockey team challenged Delaware Valley at McCarthy Field on Friday night, scoring a goal in each period and shutting out the Aggies 2-0. With the win, Wilkes secures the number two seed for the Freedom Conference Tournament, and will play King’s College in the first round.

In the first period each team had several chances to score, but Wilkes broke the tie in the 25th minute when Jenna DiSabatino found Brittany Sines for a 20 foot shot after a penalty corner for the first score of the game. The Lady Colonels would have other chances before the break, but solid Aggie defense kept the score at 1-0 going into halftime.

In the second half Wilkes tacked on another score when Jennifer Keegan found Cassie DiSabatino in front of the Aggie goal for the second and final score of the contest. Delaware Valley threatened, firing five shots on goal in the period, but goalie Lindsey Davenport made multiple saves to keep the Aggies out of the nets.

Delaware Valley shot 12 times in the game, while Wilkes was able to get off 18 shots of its own. Lindsey Davenport had eight saves in the contest, and improved to 14-2 on the season.

With the win Wilkes now is 5-1 in conference play, and has its last regular season game of the season Saturday, Oct. 31 at Artillery Park. That game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
