COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Wilkes University wrestling team went undefeated at the Buckeye Duals hosted by Ohio State University where the Colonels won all four of their matches.

Wilkes opened the event with a 28-18 victory over NCAA Division II Ashland, where the Colonels won five of the 10 bouts, four of which came by a pin. After dropping the first match of the day, the Colonels bounced back at 133 where Ryan Wilson (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township) defeated Jacob Creed 12-3 in a major decision. At 157, James Histed (Lake Ariel, Pa./Bishop O'Hara) put the Colonels up for good with a pin over Hunter Pool in 6:02. Ben Marich (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) followed with a pin of his own, as he defeated Peter Lewis in 3:30. At 197, Zach Pizarro (Easton, Pa./Easton) pinned Josh Grider in 4:03 before Andrew Feldman (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), who is ranked No. 9 nationally pinned Tyler Hawkins in 3:43.

Wilkes followed the Ashland win with a 27-9 victory over Mount Union. Wilson picked up his second win of the day at 133, a 5-1 decision over Erik Canter before Histed moved to 2-0 on the day with a 4-3 win over Bryan Skoff. Marich put Wilkes up for good with a 7-3 victory over John Piechuta. At 174, Frank Heffernan (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) picked up his first win of the day with a 6-0 shutout win over Mike Mannypenny. Jesse Villella (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Forks) also tallies his first win and did it in fine fashion as he pinned Andy Jenkins in 5:13. Pizarro recorded the most impressive win of the match as he defeated Bill Schindel, who is currently ranked No. 5 nationally, 4-3. Feldman capped off the team win with a 7-4 decision over Derrick Hesson.

The Colonels moved to 3-0 on the day after their 30-13 beating of Mount St. Joseph. Wilkes won seven of the 10 matches in the contest, highlighted by Dattolo's 9-3 win over No. 9 Eric Meyer. Scott Mantua (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) opened the match with a 15-3 major decision win over Cody Stewart at 125, followed by Dattolo's win. Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) picked up his first victory of the day when he defeated Timothy Pope 4-3. Marich recorded his second pin of the day when he defeated Matt Collins in 2:08. Heffernan tallied the first technical fall of the day when defeated Marc Fridley 17-1. At 197, Rich Pellegrini (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) beat Justin Meineke 6-3 to round out the wins for Wilkes.

Wilkes finished the day with a 24-19 win over Ohio Northern to improve to 7-1 on the year. The Colonels won five of the 10 matches, most of which came in the top-half of the weight classes. Mantua led off the contest with a 18-2 technical fall win over Louis PIszker. A.J. Fisher followed that performance with a pin in 1:13 over Ken Henault for his first win of the day. Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) also recorded his first victory of the tournament with an 18-2 technical fall decision over Garrett Freeman. Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) joined in the victory parade with a 12-0 shutout win over Brent Kramp before Stough picked up the final win of the day for Wilkes at 165.

The Colonels will take a week off before traveling to Grantham, Pa. to compete in the Messiah Tournament on Dec. 4.
