Sophomores Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison) and Lyndsay Ellis (Shavertown/Dallas) both received additional honors for their 2009 seasons, as weeks after being named All-Freedom Conference performers, the two were recently awarded to the Second and Third Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region.

Fissel, a sophomore from Madison, N.J., had an exceptional season at the midfielder position, scoring three goals and passing out two assists while playing in just over half the games this past year due to injury. While on the field, she was an offensive threat as well as a superior ball-handler for the Lady Colonels. For her efforts she was named to the Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Regional team.

"Over the past two years, Katy has made a great commitment to play at the next level and this recognition speaks highly of her drive, ability and coachability.  She absolutely loves the game and it shows when she plays," head coach John Sumoski said.

Ellis, a sophomore from Shavertown, Pa., solidified herself as a defensive specialist in her first year at Wilkes. She started 18 games for the Lady Colonels, and was able to pass out two assists from the defensive position. She anchored a Wilkes defense that held opponents to 1.58 goals per game and had another Freedom Conference Playoff birth. For her performance in the 2009 season, Ellis was awarded a spot on the Third Team All-Mid-Atlantic Regional team.

"This is quite an award for Lyndsay seeing her come off a year of not playing.  Her dedication to playing over the summer and to fitness allowed her to make an immediate impact here at Wilkes in the conference and in the region," Sumoski said.
