The Wilkes University baseball team will continue its season as the Colonels have received a bid to play in the ECAC South Baseball Championship. Not only will the Colonels be in the post season, but they will be the top seed in the South region and will host the final three games on Friday at Artillery Park.

The championship field will feature Penn State Altoona, Delaware Valley, Frostburg State, Wesley College and Neumann College. The No. 3 seeded Delaware Valley Aggies will host No. 6 seed Neumann at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, while No. 4 seed Frostburg State will host No. 5 seed Wesley the same day. The winners of those two games will head to Edwardsville to face either Wilkes or No. 2 seed Penn State Altoona.

The Colonels will enter the tournament with a 29-11 record and won a share of the regular season Freedom Conference title. Penn State Altoona comes to Edwardsville with a 30-17 and will be making an ECAC appearance for the first time in school history. Delaware Valley, which also plays in the Freedom Conference, sports a 21-12 record, while Neumann sports a 21-19-1 mark. Frostburg State currently owns a 25-15 record, while Wesley enters the tournament with a 24-16-1 record.

Wilkes will play the winner of the Frostburg State/Wesley game at 9 a.m. on Friday at Artillery Park, while PSU Altoona will take on the winner of the Delaware Valley/Neumann winner at noon. The championship game is slated to start at 3 p.m. at Artillery Park.

Live stats will be available for all three games on Friday at http://www.sidearmstats.com/wilkes/baseball/. Ticket prices are $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and students.

The Colonels currently own a team batting average of .329 including Andrew Garofoli’s team-best .429 mark. Nine players are currently hitting .300 or better and the team has a combined slugging percentage of .492.

They also hold a team ERA of 5.29 behind reliever Sean Fetterman’s 0.39 ERA to go along with six saves. Tom Buckler has a 9-4 record this season and his nine wins is tied for fifth nationally. Freshman Ryan Fetterman is 5-2 with a 4.02 ERA in 56.0 innings pitched and has two complete games under his belt and was one out away from getting his third earlier in the year.
