The Wilkes University wrestling team picked up one of its biggest wins in recent history by taking down seventh-ranked TCNJ 20-18. The Colonels , ranked No. 16 nationally, won five matches, including four-in-a row for their 19th win of the season.
Scott Mantua (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) opened the match by pinning Joe Trause in 6:12, which was the start of four-straight wins for the Colonels. At 133,
Ryan Wilson (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township) continued the trend by beating Dan Herr 6-1 before
Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) registered a technical fall win over Robert Micheliche in 6:20. Krawchuk won the match 17-1.
At 149,
Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) defeated John Barnett 7-6 to give Wilkes a commanding 17-0 lead. TCNJ rallied back to win the next four bouts including a technical fall win at 184 to close the gap to 17-14.
Zach Pizarro (Easton, Pa./Easton), competing at 197 clinched the match for the Colonels with his 7-1 victory over Kenny Amponsa, giving Wilkes a 20-14 advantage. TCNJ would win the final bout of the night at 285 in a major decision, but wasn't enough for the win.
