WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University is prepping to compete in the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men's Individual Tennis Championships this coming weekend, October 16-17. Several Colonels will be participating in the championships, which will be held at the Ralston Athletic Complex courts, home of the Wilkes tennis teams.

Headlining at no. 1 singles this weekend for the Colonels is Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Central Columbia). Last year's title-winner at no. 3 singles, Nolt has a 2-2 record in tournament competition this fall.

Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD, Centennial) will be playing at no. 2 singles for Wilkes. Coming in second place last year at no. 5 singles, Katz bumps up three spots after posting a 15-4 overall record last season. He'll be followed Wes McCollum (Harrisburg, Central Dauphin), who was the individual MAC champion at the no. 4-spot last year. McCollum is 4-3 in the fall last year after going 18-3 overall in 2009-10.

Playing at the no. 4 spot will be Dakkota Deem (Montgomery , Montgomery), a freshman who is competing in his first collegiate conference championship. Clarke Freeman (York, Central York) will be the Colonels no. 5 singles player, coming into the championships this weekend with a 4-2 fall record. Freeman moves up a spot this year after winning the individual title at the no. 6 spot last year. Another freshman, Alex Makos (Mansfield , Mansfield), will play at no. 6.

The Colonels will unveil all new pairings for the 2010-11 season at the MAC championships. Nolt and Katz will team at the no. 1 spot, as they bring a 4-2 fall record into this weekend. McCollum and Freeman, 3-2 this fall, will play at no. 2 while the freshman duo of Deem and Makos and their 4-3 record will play at no. 3 for the Colonels.

As a team, Wilkes will look for success this year from a mixed group of veterans and rookies as the Colonels strive for another successful showing at the MAC tournament. The championships will begin a 9:00 a.m. on both days of competition, with the semifinals and finals being held on Sunday.
