COLONELS REMAIN IN NINE OF TEN BRACKETS AT MAC MEN’S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University is alive in nine of 10 brackets at the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men's Tennis Individual Championships, as the tournament moves onto the second day of competition on Sunday.

Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Central Columbia) at no. 1 singles moved on after a first round bye and a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kevin Langner from Arcadia. He'll face Julian Oribe from Manhattanville in the semifinals on Sunday. Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD, Centennial), in the no. 2 singles bracket, defeated FDU-Florham's Kevin Kotsak 6-2, 6-0 before beating Bryan Arnett of Eastern 7-5, 6-4. He'll face Lycoming's Alex Beattie tomorrow.

In the no. 3 singles bracket, Wes McCollum (Harrisburg, Central Dauphin) moved on today after a 6-2, 6-0 win over Nick Conte from King's. McCollum also received a first round bye. At no. 4 singles, freshman Dakkota Deem (Montgomery , Montgomery) has advanced to the semifinals after a 6-4, 6-0 win over Dan Wilson from Eastern. Playing in his first MAC tournament, Deem had a first round bye.

Clarke Freeman (York, Central York) at no. 5 singles breezed past Chris DeMino of King's 6-1, 6-0 after a round one bye. He'll face Dylan Haefner of Elizabethtown in the semifinals. In the final singles bracket, freshman Alex Makos (Mansfield , Mansfield) is alive after a bye in round one and a 6-1, 6-0 win over Misericordia's Justin Muthler.

On the doubles side, Nolt and Katz advanced after an 8-5 win over Arcadia. The team of McCollum and Freeman at no. 2 doubles moved on after an easy 8-0 win over Alvernia. The no. 3 doubles pair of freshmen Deem and Makos are in the semifinals after an 8-5 win over Misericordia. Bao Nguyen (Scranton, PA/Scranton) and Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) fell to a team from King's in the first round of the final bracket, Wilkes only loss on Saturday.

The semifinals will begin tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
