WILKES UNIVERSITY HOSTS 58TH ANNUAL JOHN CHWALEK OPEN

On Monday, June 28th Wilkes University held its 58th annual John Chwalek open at Wyoming Valley Country Club. Over 100 golfers participated in the event, all of whom received lunch and dinner along with 18 holes of golf.

The event is run in memory of John J. Chwalek, Sr., who worked at Wilkes for 40 years. At the end of the day, the Colonel Blazer award is given out to faculty, administrators, alumni and distinguished members of the community who have made significant contributions to the progress of Wilkes. Receiving the Colonel Blazer this year was Mr. Thomas Craig, Dr. Bernard Graham, Dr. Vee Ming Lew, Mr. Ronald Miller ’93, and Mrs. Lynne Smith.

The John. J. Chwalek Memorial Scholarship was also awarded after dinner. The scholarship was created to recognize the love for Wilkes and concern for others that John J. Chwalek exemplified during his 40 years of service at Wilkes. This year’s recipient was Shadea Gates.

Championship Flight:
1st; Joe May, Marty Behm, Wayne Baer, and Jim Degrosio with a 59

Ladies Division - Championship Flight: Mildred Urban, Sandy Sheruda, Addy Malatesta, Sabrina Grant with a 73


Closest to the Pin:
Women’s – Gloria Preat with 21” on hole #5
Men’s – Don Lewis with 13’6” on hole #7

Longest Drive:
Men’s – Marty Behm on Hole #1
Women’s – Addy Malatesta on Hole #12
