WILKES WRESTLING CRUISES TO 39-3 WIN AGAINST ELIZABETHTOWN IN METRO DEBUT
 
WILKES-BARRE – The No. 12 Wilkes University wrestling team continued their early season success taking nine of ten bouts to post a 39-3 win over visiting Elizabethtown College in both teams' Metropolitan Conference openers Friday night in the Marts Center.
 
With the win Wilkes moves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Metro matches. Elizabethtown drops to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
 
David Oberrender started things off at 197 when he pinned Cameron Aregood in :59 as Wilkes took an early 6-0 lead. After an Elizabethtown decision at 285, freshman Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) scored an upset win over Elizabethtown's Will Bentley (d3wrestle.com honorable mention) 11-9 as the Colonels upped their advantage to 9-3 after three bouts.
 
At 133, Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) pinned Jordan Stepanchick at 6:04 as Wilkes extended the lead to 15-3. Tenth ranked Ryan Wilson (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township) remained unbeaten at 141 with a 2-1 decision over Colin Sheridan in a tight bout decided on riding time. At 149, fourth ranked Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) posted a 5-1 decision over Kody Rittenbaugh to move to 8-0 overall on the season and push the Wilkes lead to 21-3 after six bouts. Matt Ellery (Somerset, NJ/Middlesex) scored a 3-2 decision over Max Barsky at 165 before Ben Marich (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) recorded his first win of 2011-12 pinning Jordan Moser at 2:23.
 
Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) (174) earned a 6-4 decision over Dylan Carmichael and Buddy Gouger (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) (184) pinned Kyle Deeds in 6:41 to round out the Colonel win in their 2011-12 home debut.
 
In exhibition matches, Wilkes Kyle Hinton (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) took a 9-3 decision over Tim Goldkamp, while George Simms III pinned Matt Klempa in 2:28 both bouts at 157.
 
Wilkes will return to the mat tomorrow when the Colonels travel to Oneonta, N.Y. to compete in the Oneonta Red Dragon Invitational. Bouts are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
