Dattolo talks about NCAA championships

Colonels Notebook
• The Colonels Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) is the team's lone qualifying wrestler as he represents WU at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships in La Crosse, WI on March 11-12.
• The national championships are hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and will take place Friday and Saturday, with first day of action set to get underway at 11:00 a.m. at the La Crosse Center.
• Dattolo enters the NCAAs as the Metropolitan Conference's champion at 149, defeating Centenary's John Stillo 1-0 in the title match for the automatic qualifying bid.
• Dattolo finished his day at the Metro championships 4-0; As the No. 1 seed, he pinned NYU's Dan Gorman in 1:52 before beating Christian Mazzochi 7-4; In the semfinals he got a 6-3 decision over TCNJ's John Darling, moving on to the
championship match with Stillo.
• He's received the No. 5 seed, getting a first round bye for the championships; He'll square off against unseeded Andrew Johnson from Heidelberg in the second round; Johnson has a 19-13 overall record for the 'Berg, who wrestle out of the OAC.
• This will be the first meeting between Dattolo and Johnson, however they do have two like-opponents: Mazzocchi of King's (Johnson pinned Mazzocchi in 6:32), and Kevin Shadrach of Mount Union (Dattolo won a 5-0 decision; Johnson went 1-2)
• Dattolo is 27-2 overall this season, including an undefeated 22-0 mark against
Division III competition; He's 2-0 against nationally ranked wrestlers, defeating Lycoming's Isaiah Britton (No. 10) on Nov. 13 at the John Reese Duals and Jacob Groth (No. 7) of Wartburg on Jan. 8 at the NWCA National Duals.
• He's 5-0 against other national qualifying wrestlers this season, getting two wins over Britton, the win over Groth, a 5-3 win over Kris Magruder of Wisc-Stevens Point, and a major decision over Delaware Valley's Zac Andrews back on Dec. 11 at Muhlenberg College.
• Dattolo is also 3-2 against Division I competition, defeating Cal Stack and Dillon Smith from Lehigh and Aaron Fry from Lock Haven at the Wilkes Open on Dec. 28.
