FOUR WILKES STUDENT-ATHLETES RECOGNIZED FOR CONTRIBUTIONS ON AND OFF THE FIELD
 
WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University's Anthony Dattolo and Melanie Nolt have been named the school's 2011-12 Male and Female Athletes of the Year while Ed Zulkoski and Michelle Wakeley were tabbed the 2012 Male and Female Senior Scholar Athletes, as announced by the athletic department Thursday.
 
Dattolo, a two-time All-American at Wilkes, finished his fine career as national runner-up at 149 at this year's NCAA Championships. He concluded his senior campaign with a 33-1 mark, his only loss coming in the national championship match. Over his four-year career, Dattolo collected over 100 wins including a 54-13 (.805) dual record while earning two Metropolitan Conference titles.
 
Nolt, a three-time Freedom Conference Most Valuable Player, was tabbed a first team All-Freedom performer for the third straight season after going 16-5 at No. 1 singles for the unbeaten (19-0) Lady Colonels. Nolt was perfect in league matches with a 5-0 mark and finished the regular season with a 14-4 record in dual contests as Wilkes climbed to its highest regional ranking in school history (7th/Atlantic South) entering the NCAA Tournament.
 
Zulkoski, a four-year midfielder on the men's soccer team, finished a fine career in the Navy and Gold in 2011 posting eight points on two goals and four assists starting in 16 of the Colonels 17 contests (6-11).  
For his career, Zulkoski played and started in 74 matches totaling 33 points on 10 goals and 13 assists being named a Second Team All-Freedom performer during his junior season as well as garnering a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association Scholar All-East Region Third Team. He also was tabbed a College Division Scholar Athlete All-East Region Honorable Mention, holding a 3.912 grade point average as a Computer Science major.
 
Wakeley earned First Team All-Conference honors as a senior finishing fourth at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships with a time of 24:54. She recorded a school-record time of 24:01 in the MAC Championships as a junior earning Second Team All-Conference honors finishing in 14th place at the event. A Biology major, Wakeley holds a 4.0 grade point average in the classroom.

The four were among many honorees at a May 1st extracurricular/leadership awards luncheon, held at the Henry Student Center Ballroom at Wilkes University.
