NO. 20 WILKES WRESTLING POSTS NINTH STRAIGHT WIN WITH 32-9 VICTORY OVER ESU
 
WILKES-BARRE – The No. 20 Wilkes University wrestling team posted a strong showing in its home dual match debut collecting eight of ten wins in a 32-9 victory over Division II East Stroudsburg Wednesday night at the Marts Center.
 
Wilkes improves to 9-3 overall on the season. It marks the ninth straight dual win for the Colonels who moved up in the latest NWCA team rankings to No. 20.
 
Guesseppe Rea (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) gave Wilkes a 3-0 lead after the first bout fo the night when he posted a 6-0 decision over Nick Kaiser. Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) continued to build the Wilkes lead with a major decision over Devin Holmes at 133 as the Colonels advantage moved to 7-0.
 
Continuing his strong performances at the North/South Duals over the weekend, senior Jeff Peterson (Edison, NJ/Edison) pinned Joe Hoy in 2:38 to extend the Wilkes lead to 13-0. After a forfeit at 149-pounds, Kris Krachuk earned a hard-fought 3-1 decision over returning All-American Braden Turner at 157 to keep ESU off the board, 18-0. Krawchuk recorded his 17 win on the season in the process.
 
At 165, Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) collected his 14th win of the year with a 6-3 decision over Colin Martucci. ESU took a decision at 174 and a fall at 184 to cut the Wilkes lead to 25-9.
 
Matt Transue (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) (197) picked-up his best win of the season with a major decision victory over Tyson Searer, the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the Super Region 1. Mike Shannon (Montvale, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) sealed the win for Wilkes with a 3-1 decision over Joe Blaes at 285.
 
Wilkes will return to the mat Saturday, January 19 when the Colonels travel to Hackettstown, NJ to compete at the Metro Dual Championships held on the campus of Centenary College. Wrestling begins at 11:00 a.m.
