WILKES MEN'S SOCCER POWERS PAST FDU-FLORHAM IN 3-1 FREEDOM VICTORY

EDWARDSVILLE – Michael Turner (Hudson, PA/Coughlin), Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington), and Tyler Young (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) each scored one goal for the Colonels as Wilkes University posted a 3-1 Freedom Conference victory over visiting FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes moves to 8-5 overall and evens its league mark at 1-1 following the win. FDU-Florham drops to 7-5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

FDU-Florham opened the contest with a 1-0 lead when Igor Petrovic took a Ryan Hurdes pass off a corner kick and found the back of the net just 2:05 into the first half.

Wilkes responded fourteen minutes later with the equalizer as Turner booted home his fourth goal of the year off assists from John Stoner (Etters, PA/Red Land) and Ryan Joyce (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood). McAnena gave Wilkes an advantage they would never relinquish when he darted free from the Devils defense for a breakaway opportunity that he put home.

Young added the insurance strike early in the second half (53:00) taking a through ball from Joyce and beating the Devils keeper one-on-one.

Wilkes outshot FDU-Florham 15-12, while both teams garnered two corner kick attempts.

Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) recorded the win in net making seven saves throughout.

Wilkes returns to the pitch Wednesday when the Colonels travel to Doylestown, Pa. for a matchup with Delaware Valley College at 4:00 p.m.
