NO. 6 WILKES WRESTLING GOES 2-0 AT NY/PA CHALLENGE

WILKES-BARRE – The No. 6 Wilkes University wrestling team went a perfect 2-0 at the NY/PA Challenge hosted by King's College on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels opened the day with a 44-0 blanking on New York University before posting a 41-9 victory over Hunter College.

Wilkes improves to 9-1 in dual match play following the afternoon duals.

Wilkes claimed all ten bouts in the shutout win over NYU. After a forfeit at 125-pounds, Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) recorded his 90th career victory with a 8-0 decision over Cordin Lee. At 141-pounds, Pankil Chander (Cedarhurst, NY/Lawrence) continued the Wilkes decision wins with a 4-3 victory over Richard Cruz. Mark Hartenstine (Easton, PA/Easton) remained perfect on the year after a 10-0 major decision over Darryl Albonico at 149. Tyler Lauchaire (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) also posted a major decision (11-2) over Dylan Lojack at 157-pounds. After Philip Racciato's technical fall (22-6) at 165, Kyle Diesel (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) was a 6-2 decision winner over Brian Anderson at 174. Marlon Duque (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) pinned Robert Hankins in :42 at 184 and Eric Bach (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) rounded out the Colonel winners with an 8-0 major decision over Roman Accetta.

Wilkes used four falls and two technical falls to cruise to the 41-9 win over Hunter in the nightcap. Levi Veppert (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh), Eric Bach (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny), and William Fletcher (Ottsville, PA/Palisades) all recording piins to close out the match at 184, 197 and 285. Mendoza was the other Colonel to pin his opponent, capturing his 91st career victory in the process.

Wilkes returns to the mat Friday when the Colonels make their 2013-14 home debut against Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
