Wilkes landed five players on the All-Freedom Conference squads for the second straight year WILKES WOMEN’S LACROSSE LANDS FIVE ON ALL-FREEDOM CONFERENCE SQUADS 4/29/2014 3:15:00 PM (Full All-Freedom Teams)WILKES WOMEN'S LACROSSE LANDS FIVE ON ALL-FREEDOM CONFERENCE SQUADS ANNVILLE, PA – After setting the school record for wins in a season and securing its first-ever postseason home contest on Thursday after earning the second seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament, the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team saw five players honored on the 2014 All-Freedom Conference teams as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown), Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka), Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy), Jessica MacConchie (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) were all selected to the All-Freedom Conference squads. Smith earned first team honors while Ford, Brownsey and MacConchie were named to the second team. Kerr was tabbed an honorable mention. Smith becomes the first player in Wilkes women's lacrosse history to be named to the first team. It marked the second straight year she was named All-Freedom claiming second team honors a year ago as a sophomore. Smith proved to be one of the top offensive performers in the league as a junior ranking in the top ten in almost every statistical category. She finished second in the league in assists with 43 while ranking sixth in goals with 50. Her 6.65 points per-game and four game-winning tallies topped the Freedom Conference. Smith also got the job done in the circle ranking fifth in the league in draw controls posting 67 on the year. Already the school's all-time points leader, Ford earned her second straight second team nod as a senior this season. She finished in the top five in the league in goals (51), assists (27), game-winning goals (3), ground balls (54), draw controls (69) and caused turnovers (39) playing in a deep and talented midfield for the Lady Colonels. She went over the 200-goal mark late this year in a 21-10 victory over Eastern University to conclude the regular season. Brownsey provided the firepower up front for Wilkes all season finishing third on the team in points (65) while cashing in on 54 goals (two game-winning goals) and 11 assists. She added 29 ground balls and 12 draw controls in her second full season on the squad. MacConchie led an improved Wilkes defensive unit all season as the Lady Colonels allowed just over nine goals per contest ranking second in the conference. Starting in all fourteen games, MacConchie posted season totals of 38 ground balls, 14 draw controls and 21 caused turnovers. She also moved into the offensive end during stretches of games firing in three goals on the year. Kerr showed her versatility on the field especially in the offensive end leading the league in goals with 55 (two game-winning goals) on the season. She added seven assists, 42 ground balls, 59 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers. The honored marked the second straight year Kerr was selected to the All-Freedom Conference squad as just a sophomore. Wilkes (12-2) hosts third seeded Misericordia University Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium in one of two Freedom Conference semifinals.
