No. 22 Wilkes Wrestling Cruises Past LIU Post 30-6 at MSG
 
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The No. 22 Wilkes University wrestling team took eight of ten bouts including four extra point wins cruising to a 30-6 victory over LIU Post Sunday morning in the Colonels first ever appearance at the Grapple and the Garden held at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City.
 
Wilkes improves to 5-2 following the dual match victory.
 
Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) pushed his season mark to a perfect 11-0 earning an 8-4 decision at 125 to give Wilkes an early 3-0 lead. LIU Post tied the match with a decision at 133 when defending national champion Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) suffered his first loss of the year falling 5-4 to Joseph Calderone, a Division II All-American last season.
 
Pankil Chander (Cedarhurst, NY/Lawrence) gave the Colonels the advantage back with a 5-2 decision at 141 before Josh Evans (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) pushed the lead to nine pinning his opponent in 4:02 at 149.
 
Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) wrestled to a major decision (14-3) at 165 and James Ilvento (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) held on for a 6-5 sudden victory decision at 174 to extend the Wilkes lead to 19-6. Kyle Diesel (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) continued his unbeaten senior season moving to 10-0 following a dominating 14-0 major decision at 184 while Nicholas Dawson (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville) followed with a 3-2 decision win at 197. Alex Pullen (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico) finished off the scoring for Wilkes claiming a 13-1 major decision victory at 285.
 
Up next Wilkes will compete at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational Friday and Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m.
