Wilkes advances to the MAC Freedom title match for the first time since 2005 when the Lady Colonels captured the crown and made the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament. It marks the third trip to the finals under head coach John Sumoski. Misericordia controlled most of the contest in its offensive half of the field with Wilkes countering on several occasions for shots on goal. Mahoney came up huge in net for Wilkes all night including two point blank saves, one with eight minutes left in regulation and another diving stop from a Misericordia foot with seven minutes left in the second overtime to keep the game scoreless. In the shootout, Jess Benjamin (Canandensis, PA/Pocono Mountain East) put Wilkes on the board first before Misericordia tied the game at 1-1 after its first attempt. Megan Lercara (Plains, PA/James M. Coughlin) added Wilkes' second tally and Misericordia responded knotting it up at 2-2 after two attempts. Elena Denger (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) added the Lady Colonels third goal before a shot from Misericordia's Amber Hartanft missed to give Wilkes the advantage up 3-2. Ema Sabovic (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) added the fourth Wilkes goal and after a Misericordia tally, Brittany Gurreri (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) seal the shootout victory notching the fifth and final goal for the Lady Colonels putting the ball to the upper right corner past the Cougar keeper. Misericordia held a 23-12 shot advantage while garnering 12 corner kicks to Wilkes' two attempts. Wilkes used a sound defensive backline and steady play in the midfield to keep a dangerous Cougar offensive squad off the scoreboard throughout. Wilkes will travel to second seed DeSales University Saturday to play for the MAC Freedom title at 1:00 p.m. DeSales advanced to the finals following a 3-1 victory over third seed King's College earlier in the afternoon.
