Wilkes Women's Tennis Sweeps MAC Individual Championships Winning Seven Singles titles, Four Doubles Crowns
EDWARDSVILLE – For the second straight season the Wilkes University women's tennis team showed its dominance of the conference sweeping all seven singles titles and all four doubles crowns at the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park.
Wilkes has now won 43 all-time singles championships and 25 all-time doubles championships to lead all conference schools at the conference event.

Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) earned her second straight singles title using a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Eastern's Emma Paugh in the top flight finals. Vasarkovy reached the championship match with a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) win over Alvernia's Cassandra Noray in the semifinals.
At No. 2 singles, top-seeded
Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep) claimed her third MAC singles title with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kaitlyn Russell of Messiah in the finals. Croker used a 6-1, 6-1 win in the semifinals over Alvernia's Amanda Phillips to reach the final match.
At No. 3 singles, top-seeded
Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) earned her first individual championship using a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the finals over Alyssa Boyd of Alvernia. Saliyev scored a 6-1, 6-4 win in the semifinals a match prior over Melanie Haas of Lebanon Valley to reach the title bout.
Another rookie Lady Colonel notched her first career title at No. 4 singles as
Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) used a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Sydney Schandel of Messiah in the finals to claim the crown. She went 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals against Alyssa Potosnak of Lebanon Valley to move into the finals a match earlier.
Taylor Hoffmann (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland) made it three-straight MAC singles titles in her career at No. 5 when she posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Messiah's Meagan Scala in the finals. Hoffmann used a 6-0, 6-0 win in the semifinals over Elizabeth Drda of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals to reach the finals.
After falling short as a freshman last season at No. 2,
Grace Graham (Rockville Centre, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) pulled through for her first career singles title at No. 6 this season winning 6-0, 6-1 over Megan Williams of Lebanon Valley in the finals. She posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the semifinals over Sarah Chan of DeSales to reach first finals matchup.
Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) completed the sweep of Wilkes singles winners when she won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 7 position over Lindsay Driscoll of DeSales. Zielinski went 6-4, 6-0 in the semifinals over Allison Weidman of Lebanon Valley to advance to the final match.
Vasarkovy and Croker were successful in defending their title at No. 1 doubles as the pair posted an 8-2 win over a duo from Stevenson in the finals. In its toughest match of the tournament, the Wilkes pair scored an 8-5 victory in the semifinals over a team from Albright to advance to their second straight top doubles finals appearance.
At No. 2 doubles, the freshmen duo of Saliyev and Varela-Seri added to their singles crowns with an 8-1 win over a team from Alvernia in the finals. The duo won their semifinal match 8-2 over Lycoming to reach the title match.
At No. 3 doubles, top-seed Hoffmann and
Julia Baranov (Huntingdon Valley, PA/William Tennent) defended their title with an 8-1 win in the finals over a duo from Alvernia. The Wilkes team posted a perfect 8-0 win in the semifinals over DeSales to reach the title match.
At No. 4 doubles,
Alanna Denauski (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) and
Brittany Stanton (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) rounded out the Wilkes winners in double splay earning the title with an 8-1 victory over Lebanon Valley. The duo used an 8-5 win in the semifinals over a pair from DeSales to earn a spot in the finals It marked Stanton's second consecutive doubles title, this year with a different partner.
Wilkes wraps up its 2016 fall campaign on Tuesday hosting Marywood University at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
