NEW YORK, NY – The Wilkes University wrestling team fell in both of its matches at the Grapple at the Garden Sunday afternoon at the Madison Square Garden Theater. The event, now in its sixth year, featured just one mat for competition.  
 
The Colonels dropped a 29-16 decision to No. 3 Stevens before falling 38-3 to LIU Post in its final match of the day. Wilkes slipped to 6-8 overall in dual matches on the season following the two-match event.
 
Stevens, the third ranked team in the country in Division III, posted wins in six of the ten bouts including four extra-point victories. A technical fall and two straight falls in the first three bouts gave Stevens a 17-0 lead. Josh Evans (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) put the Colonels on the board with a 13-3 major decision at 149-pounds. Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) added a 9-3 decision at 165-pounds before a decision win from Matthew Judge (Eynon, PA/Valley View) at 184-pounds (7-1) and fall from Jacob Huling (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) at heavyweight to round out the Wilkes scoring in the match.
 
Jake Dimarsico (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) was the lone winner for Wilkes in the match against LIU Post earning an 8-3 decision win at 133-pounds.
 
Wilkes remains idle until December 22 when the Colonels host the 85^th annual Wilkes Open at the Marts Center starting at 9:00 a.m.
