Wilkes Wrestling Sweeps Pair of Matches at McDaniel Duals
WESTMINSTER, MD – The Wilkes University wrestling team swept a pair of dual matches Saturday afternoon at the McDaniel Duals at the Gill Center. The Colonels opened the day with a 35-9 drubbing of Southern Virginia before posting a 25-12 victory over host McDaniel.
Wilkes now stands 5-6 overall in dual matches on the young season.
The Colonels posted wins in the first five bouts against SVU.
Kyle Trout (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) led off the match against SVU with a 11-4 decision at 125-pounds.
Jake Dimarsico (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) followed with a 18-2 technical fall at 133-pounds before
Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) pinned Christopher Fletcher in 3:50 at 141-pounds.
Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) made it back-to-back pins with a fall in 1:19 at 149-pounds.
Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) added the Colonels fourth extra-point win with a 19-0 technical fall over Matthew Rosson in 2:20 at 157-pounds.
Matthew Judge (Eynon, PA/Valley View),
Jacob Huling (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) and
Moustafa Almeky (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) rounded out the Colonel victory with decision wins at 184, 197 and 285. Judge went 8-4, Huling earned a major decision (17-3) and Almeky posted a 4-2 decision to seal the dual match win.
Wilkes then took seven of the ten bouts against the host McDaniel on way to its second double-digit victory of the day. Trout won his second match of the day with a 9-4 decision at 125. The Colonels then swept the next six bouts from 141-184, three earning extra points. Grossmann earned his win of the day with a 6-4 decision at 141. Medrow and
Josh Evans (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) posted back-to-back extra-point wins with Medrow earning a technical fall 21-4 and Evans a major decision 17-3. Gyenizs and Judge both added their second victories of the day while
John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) finished off the scoring for Wilkes with a 10-0 major decision at 174.
Wilkes is back in action Friday night hosting Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.
